Carol's Bio
Carol has enjoyed success as a writer in many mediums including film, TV, and theatre.
Her eight short films include 'What Happened to Evie' (2019) directed by BAFTA winner Kate Cheeseman - selected for 40 festivals and winner of 14 awards; 'Night Armour' (2017) and 'Smile' (2018) directed by Carolina Giammetta - selected for 25 festivals and winner of 11 awards.
Her short film 'The Touch' (2017) was one of only three scripts awarded production funding at the Berlinale Film Festival and was subsequently directed by BBC's Simon PItts, who also directed Carol's short film 'Ten Glorious Seconds' (2016).
'Charlie's Freedom' was shot in Bristol and was directed by Bafta Winning Director Rachel Tillotson and produced by French Fancy Productions - selected for 8 top international film festivals including two BIFA qualifying. In addition, it won 9 script awards.
Carol's script for 'Annie Pannie' won an award from Film Expo South to be produced by Tenerife Productions. The filming took place in Tenerife, directed by Deanna Dewey - selected for 11 international film festivals and winner of more than 30 awards.
Four of Carol's short films are currently enjoying global distribution through Shorts TV, Pacific Voice and Origine.
Carol's Theatre credits include: 'Tatterjack and the Wotsit Box' (Scat Theatre); 'Sisters under the Skin' (Lincoln Comedy Festival); 'Escape the Forever Path' (Proteus Theatre); 'Paddy's Wake' (Union Theatre) and 'Black Balls and Pink Marbles' (Hammersmith Theatre). Her children's play 'Only a Game' was published by Samuel French and has enjoyed hundreds of productions around the world. It was also translated and published by Uitgeverij Vink as 'Het is Maar Een Spel'.
Carol was an additional writer on TV's Emmy award-winning 'Smack the Pony' and has worked on developing two of her own TV pilot comedy creations 'Jump the Gun' with Avalon Productions and 'Rat Links' with Celador. She also won a Radio 4 competition for her play 'Fairground Attraction'.
She has an MA in screenwriting (TV & Film) and is currently developing a TV Thriller Series 'The Truth'; a Comedy Drama '16 Ditto' and a Children's Novel 'Escape the Games'.
Films
What happened to Evie - a short drama directed by BAFTA winning Director Kate Cheeseman starring Bessie Coates, Michael Jibson and Sian Reeves. It was produced by French Fancy Productions and awarded completion funding. In April 2018 it started its festival season and was selected for 42 global film festivals including Oscar and Bafta qualifiers. It also won 14 awards including Best International Short Film at Galway Film Fleadh and Best Short Drama at San Jose Film Festival.
Night Armour - a short film comedy, directed by Carolina Giammetta and produced by Georgina French, starred Elizabeth Berrington and Dan Fredenburgh. It made official selection at 16 global film festivals and achieved many top awards including Best Picture, Best Comedy, Best Short and Best International Short.
Ten Glorious Seconds - a sensitive short film drama featuring David Suchet and directed by BBC's Simon PItts. This film was sponsored by Bupa and achieved worldwide success on the internet where it has been viewed tens of thousands of times.
Smile - a dark film thriller directed by the acclaimed Carolina Giammetta, and produced by French Fancy Productions, starring Deborah Cornelius and Joe Tucker. It made official selection at 15 global film festivals including two BAFTA qualifiers and was also nominated for Best Director and Best Score.
The Touch - this script was one of only three selected at the prestigious Berlinale Film Festival 2014. It was awarded funding by Canon films, starred Claudius Peters and Rachael Holloway and was produced in 2015 by Flourishing Pictures and French Fancy Productions.
Blue Room - a short experimental drama directed by BAFTA winning Director Kate Cheeseman starring Georgia Henshaw and Adam Bellamy. It has been selected for three international film festivals and won Best Short Experimental Horror.
Charlies Freedom - a sensitive short film drama directed by BAFTA winning Director Rachel Tillotson, starring Olivia Pentelow, Clare Perkins and Stacha Hicks. It was filmed in Bristol in 2022 and will be starting its festival season in 2023.
Annie Pannie - this script was one of two selected for production by Film Expo South's annual competition. It was produced in 2022 by TFL productions and directed by Deanna Dewey in Tenerife. It starred Georgia Henshaw and Nick Bartlett and enjoyed its world premier at Palm Beach International Film Festival in April 2023.
Theatre
Sisters under the Skin - a one-woman comedy monologue performed in venues across the South of England and Lincoln Comedy Festival.
Paddy's Wake - a dark comedy produced by the Union Theatre, London.
Black Balls and Pink Marbles - a broad comedy showcased by Hammersmith Theatre, London.
Last Night Party - produced by Bench Theatre, Havant, Hants.
My Sister was a Straight - commissioned as a one woman show for Edinburgh Festival.
Tatterjak and the Wotsit Box - commissioned by Scat Theatre Company for its tour of schools across the South of England.
TV, Radio and Children's
Smack the Pony - additional writer for Emmy award wining TV comedy sketch show featuring Fiona Allen, Doon Mackichan, Sally Phillips and Sarah Alexander.
Jump the Gun - a comedy TV sketch show, created and written by Carol Younghusband and developed with Avalon Productions for BBC (not commissioned).
Fairground Attraction - a 30 minute comedy play for Radio 4.
Only a Game - a children's play published by Samuel French in London, New York and Toronto. It has been performed in hundreds of venues across the world.
Escape the Forever Path - showcased by Proteus Theatre Company, Basingstoke.
Het is maar een spel - a children's play published by Uitgeverij Vink, IBVA Holland. It has been performed in translation many times throughout the Netherlands.

Escape the Games is a coming-of-age story about rebellion, redemption and hope. It follows Jevesh who is forced to face his greatest fears, insecurities and selfishness, not simply to win a game but to survive one more day.
